SAMSUNG E&A, a total solutions provider for the global energy industry, announced through a public disclosure today that its US office, SAMSUNG E&A America, has previously signed an EPF (Engineering, Procurement, and Fabrication) contract for the ‘USA Wabash Low-Carbon Ammonia Project’ from Wabash Valley Resources. This contract marks SAMSUNG E&A America’s first low-carbon ammonia plant contract valued at approximately USD $475 million with a contract duration of 30 months.
The plant, to be built in West Terre Haute, Indiana, is an ammonia production facility in the USA that receives a federal permit for permanent carbon dioxide storage. It will produce 500,000 tonnes of environmentally friendly ammonia per year and has the capacity to capture 1.67 million tonnes of carbon dioxide. The produced ammonia will be used as fertilizer for farmland in the Midwest of the United States.
SAMSUNG E&A plans to leverage its extensive ammonia plant experience and its differentiated technologies, such as Digital Twin, Digital Transformation, AI, and automation, for this project.
SAMSUNG E&A will work with Honeywell to successfully execute the project. Honeywell’s industry-leading carbon capture technologies will be used at the Wabash Valley Resources facility to optimize operations and reduce emissions to increase the production of ammonia. SAMSUNG E&A has collaborated with Honeywell to provide carbon capture technologies for hard-to-abate energy projects worldwide.
SAMSUNG E&A expanded its portfolio with new energy solutions supporting global energy addition and diversification, successfully re-entering the U.S. market with this contract—the first since its initial entry in 2011.
In the era of energy expansion, SAMSUNG E&A has continued to develop new businesses and secure future growth engines by focusing on three E&Able strategies: ▷E&Able Low (low carbon), ▷E&Able Zero (zero carbon), and ▷E&Able Circle (environment), driving innovation toward a more sustainable and technology-driven future.
Notably, SAMSUNG E&A has been developing technologies, investing in and strengthening partnerships to secure core energy expansion technologies, including carbon capture, water electrolysis, ammonia synthesis/decomposition, and e-Fuel. SAMSUNG E&A has recently achieved several notable achievements, including winning contracts for SAF and eco-friendly LNG plants, participating in PLA (Poly Lactic Acid) plant, acquiring equity in global hydrogen company Nel ASA, and launching technology solutions.
Hong Namkoong, President and CEO of SAMSUNG E&A, said, “SAMSUNG E&A will successfully execute the project based on our main core strategy, E&Able, thereby contributing to the energy security and environmental sustainability goals of the USA and solidifying our position in North America.”
